Exciting updates are underway for the renovation of the FASS building at Cypress College. As of April 1, 2024, construction has officially begun on this extensive project, and officials are confident that the newly renovated facility will open its doors in Fall 2026.
The renovation, which is expected to cost $57.2 million, is part of the college’s long-term investment in upgrading campus facilities to better serve students. The building’s transformation aims to provide a modern, state-of-the-art space for the college’s visual and performing arts programs, including new classrooms, studios, galleries and a recital hall
“We are currently planning to open for the upcoming Fall 2026 semester, it all depended on the approved changes,” said Marc Posner, director of campus communications. This confirmed that the construction is still on track for the scheduled opening.
This is great news for students and faculty who have been eagerly awaiting the completion of this significant upgrade. The new facility will offer a much-needed expansion in space and resources for programs that have long awaited to add to the college.
In addition to the renovation itself, there’s another major change in store for the building. Once it opens, the FASS building will be renamed to better reflect the division it serves. While the name change still requires approval and formal inclusion in the official documents, the new title will be the Visual and Performing Arts Building. This rebranding aligns with the evolving focus of the college’s academic offerings and acknowledges the growing importance of the arts at Cypress College.
As the renovation continues, students can look forward to an innovative facility designed to enhance their educational experience. The new VAPA Building promises to be a vibrant, creative area that will benefit both current and future students.
