Cypress College’s Visual and Performing Arts Center is undergoing a major transformation in preparation for its Fall 2026 opening.
The 66,765-square-foot Fine Arts building, originally constructed in 1969, is being renovated as part of the college’s Measure J Bond Program. The project will modernize instructional spaces, improve safety features, and enhance resources for students and faculty involved in visual and performing arts programs.
Marc S. Posner, director of campus communication, confirmed that construction is expected to be completed by summer 2026 aiming for a fall opening. However, a definitive timeline for the fall opening is still pending, as additional time will be needed to move equipment and materials into the updated facility. “We’re aiming for a fall opening, but it depends on how long the move-in process takes.”
The renovation includes several key upgrades. The building will undergo seismic safety improvements, receive a new heating and ventilation system and see enhancements to instructional technology. The updated VAPA building will serve students studying art, journalism, dance, music, theatre, photography and media arts design.
While construction continues, VAPA programs have been temporarily relocated to the Fine Arts Swing Space to ensure uninterrupted classes.
College officials emphasize that the renovated facility will feature modern classrooms, studios and performance spaces designed to foster student learning and creative collaboration.
According to the Cypress College website the renovation project aims to provide a cutting-edge center for artistic innovation on campus, serving as a hub for creativity and collaboration. Once complete, the VAPA building will offer expanded studios and performance areas designed to support the diverse needs of Cypress College’s creative community.
Alejandra Ramirez and Allison Coburn, capital project staff members provided no comment for further updates and finalized dates. Campus officials are optimistic that the newly renovated facility will inspire both students and faculty.
The VAPA building’s reopening is expected to be a significant milestone for the college, creating a modern space that reflects the evolving needs of the arts programs and magnifying the overall student experience at Cypress College.
