Cypress College student government, Associated Students, will host its annual World Fest on Wednesday, April 22, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. in front of the pool area near the campus library.
The event will feature display boards, flags as well as colorful posters highlighting how different countries experience travel and showcasing their cultures.
Student clubs will engage attendees by sharing insights about their respective countries. Each club will also offer food samples, giving students an opportunity to try cuisines they may not have experienced before.
Alfa Anan Madhu, vice president of student organizations for A.S and event coordinator, said attendees can expect a variety of interactive activities.
“We are going to have a lot of fun events, one of them being a backdrop with countries where students can pin where they are from on the world map,” Madhu said.
Madhu emphasized that increasing student engagement has been a priority for the Associated Students this academic year.
“Our main goal for this entire school year was to increase student engagement,” Madhu said. “Everybody is welcome to come by and see what we’ve done.”
The event, which is funded by the student body, is designed to benefit students, according to Madhu.
“This is an A.S-sponsored event, so it is paid for by the student body, so I would love to have them see what we do with that,” she said.
World Fest will offer opportunities for students to connect with one another.
“It is such a good opportunity to meet new people and even maybe find old friends,” Madhu said. “I know that people think these two years aren’t going to be that important, but they can actually be super important in building relationships.”
World Fest will be one of the final events of the academic year for students to attend.
More than 20 clubs will be attending. Clubs participating in the event include the Chess Club, which will bring Vietnamese coffee, the Math Club, offering tang yuen, the Art Visionaries Club with beef plov, and the FITE Club, which will serve potato tacos.
