Cypress College Forensics Team went to Pacific Southwest Collegiate Forensics Association’s (PSCFA) Fall Championships this Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 7 and 8, at CSULB and wins Silver medal in Speech and Debate.
The Forensic team members competed in a variety events. These events include: Parliamentary Debate, Informative Speech, Persuasive Speech, Poetry Interpretation, and Prose Interpretation.
The Forensic team members that competed are: Ibrahim Abbas, Teri Boddie, Nancy Escobedo, Châu “Bao” Bui, Steven Hardy, and Luke Hernandez.
On Saturday, debaters, Hardy and Hernandez, competed in Novice Parliamentary Debate. They participated in four different rounds debating topics like minimum wage, campaign finance, and China.
They did very well overall and even made it to the Bronze round. In the Bronze round, they competed against debaters from Mt. San Antonio College. They won the round by unanimous decision and moved on to finals. They did not end up winning gold against Solano Community College, but still placed in silver.
Abbas, Boddie, Escobedo, Bui, and Hernandez competed in individual events. Unfortunately, no one made it to finals in their rounds on Sunday, Dec. 7.
Great job to all those who competed at forensics tournaments this year and great job Hardy and Hernandez for finishing strong by bringing the Silver Medal to Cypress College.
