California is gearing up for the special election on Nov. 4, citizens will be voting on Proposition 50.
Proposition 50 will indicate and redistrict the maps for California temporarily in order to pick up seats for Democratic party.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom proposed Proposition 50 after Texas republican lawmakers proposed a bill to rearrange the state’s congressional lines to favor the republicans.
In July, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott called for a special session to discuss redistricting, in which the democratic party in the state house of representatives fled the state in an effort to break congregation and stop the redistricting effort.
Proposition 11 passed in 2008, and Proposition 20 passed in 2010, were voter-approved amendments to the state constitution, that state any attempt to redistrict in the state of California would require an election to temporary redistrict until the next census. The next census will take place in 2030.
The Republican party in California has proposed a resolution to split California into two states, this is their own proposition in response to the placement of Proposition 50 on a special election ballot.
If Proposition 50 is passed the congressional map will change temporarily and democrats can secure more seats during the midterm elections. If Proposition 50 is not passed the congressional map will stay the same, leaving the congressional seats open for the 2026 midterm elections which will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 3, 2026.
