Staying active is part of a healthy lifestyle. With the holidays here packing on a few extra pounds may be inevitable. After the holidays come around, it’s time for New Year Resolutions. A popular resolution is to start working out. Beat the crowds now and find a gym and membership deal that works for you and get a jump start.
There are several gyms located within a few miles radius of Cypress College.
Chuze Fitness located at 9851 Walker St. in Cypress offers two different memberships. They offer a basic membership for $9.99 per month. With the basic membership you have access to all of the workout equipment and their circuit-training room. They also offer a premium membership for $19.99 per month. With the premium membership you have access to everything the basic membership offers along with the use of any location, group classes, tanning and hydro massage. You can visit any location and bring a friend with you at no additional charge. Both memberships also have start up and annual fees to join. Membership is available month-to-month. Chuze Fitness is open 24 hours a day Monday – Thursday. They close at 10 p.m. on Fridays and are open Weekends 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Chuze Fitness also has nearby Orange County locations in Garden Grove and Westminster.
Planet Fitness is located at 8960 Knott Ave. in Buena Park offers two different memberships. They offer a membership for $10 per month. This membership offers access to the location joined and the workout equipment. They also offer a Black Card Membership for $19.99 per month. With the Black Card membership you have access to everything the $10 membership offers along with the use of any location, access to tanning, massage chairs.
Anytime Fitness is located at 6911 Katella Ave. in Cypress offers two different types of memberships. The first membership they offer is month to month. There is an enrollment fee of $88.00. Monthly dues of $40 are due after joining. The second type of membership they offer does require a one year commitment to the gym. There is still the $88.00 enrollment fee, monthly fees are lower. Monthly dues are $35.99. Anytime Fitness offers group classes and seven day guest passes.
Anytime Fitness is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year. Staff is not on duty 24 hours a day. Staff hours are Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on Sunday 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Anytime Fitness also has nearby Orange County locations in the city of Orange and in Westminster.
Andrew Percastegui, dental hygienist major, works out at the Planet Fitness in Buena Park. He has the black card membership. He doesn’t feel intimidated by other patrons. “Anybody can go in,” said Percastegui, “it’s a pretty good place to work out.”
Josh Banuelos, microbiology major, works out at L.A. Fitness in Downey where he lives. He said he likes to work out there because it’s close to home and not as packed as other gyms.
Ricky Smith, marine biology major, works out at Chuze Fitness in Cypress. He has the premium membership. Smith said “It’s cheap and has hydro massage!” as he was gathered in a circle with a group of his friends. A friend of his said “Your gym has hydro massage?” “Yeah,” replied Smith.
Students tend to like the gyms in the area. They also seem to be pretty comparable in price and benefits as well. If one is looking for a gym membership, it may be a good idea to try these local gyms out and find the one that is a good fit.
