This is the exact quote Cali Vibes Clothing used this past November to open their campaign to raise money for the extremely unfortunate disaster in Haiyan, Philippines. They are raising the money by selling personally made t-shirts by Vince Pena, 30 year old owner of Cali Vibes Clothing who is also of Philippine decent. Pena collaborated with artists, bands, and promoters for over a month to sell various types of T-shirts and tank tops at $10 a piece. 100 percent of the proceeds were donated thru Unicef to the Philippines.
Local reggae band on the rise, King Solomon, is one of the few bands that helped raise money in support for the Haiyan disaster. King Solomon is based out of Long Beach, California and has played at many venues such as The Gaslamp, Slidebar, Bull Bar, and The House of Blues. Cypress College’s very own Justin Freitas, 27 year old student majoring in Health Science, is the bass player for band. Freitas is also in the Radiology program.
“King Solomon and I wanted to help in any way possible. We already love spreading joy through music to various audiences, but to be able to help people across the world in dire need of help is truly an indescribable feeling” said Freitas.
King Solomon was able to sell 15 shirts for a total of $150 in proceeds towards the fundraiser for Typhoon Haiyan.
Cali Vibes Clothing used social media such as Facebook and Instagram to spread the word and raise as much money as possible. Vince Pena was able to organize the collection of $610 with the help of selfless individuals and organizations such as Freitas’ band King Solomon. The transaction date of the $610 was on December 3, 2013 and was sent thru www.unicef.org. Pena said on behalf of Cali Vibes Clothing, “this is just the beginning! More charity events and fundraiser coming soon!”
A simple idea can have a huge impact with a little push and the world can change with one good deed at a time.
