Cypress College hosted its annual Kindercaminata event with 1,300 kindergarteners in attendance on Friday, March 14, 2025.
Kindercaminata, founded in 1993, honors the life and accomplishments of Cesar Chavez and his motto, “Si Se Puede”—Spanish for “You can do it.” The event aims to expose children to various career options and instill the importance of higher education.
This year, Cypress College collaborated with schools across the Anaheim Union School District, bringing more than 15 local kindergarten classes to the event. The children participated in rotations of hands-on learning labs that showcased the programs Cypress College has to offer.
Staff, faculty, and students from each department presented activities related to college life. The Planetarium hosted shows for the children, and the Health Science Department provided an interactive lab to promote better health.
This year marked the second Kindercaminata since the event paused due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Cypress College aimed to leave a lasting, positive impression.
Preparation for the event began in October 2024, led by the planning committee and its chair, Brittany Hamer, interim director of the Charger Experience Program. The team worked diligently to ensure everything was ready.
Behind the scenes, many staff and student volunteers from programs like Puente, Legacy, EOPS, and the Charger Experience helped assemble bags filled with flyers and information for the students. The event showcased the unity of Cypress College and emphasized the theme: “Buen Cypress, We take this journey together.”
In the end, the event was a success, with children and teachers leaving with a new appreciation for the Cypress College experience and the hope of attending college one day.
