The white flag has been raised in Long Beach. Let the party begin!
“I have friends, you have friends, let’s all be friends!” is the motto behind The White Flag. The social event is rooted in San Diego, founded by a team of people in the community simply wanting to serve their city.
Any Cypress College student is welcome to join upcoming White Flag parties.
On April 12, The White Flag Long Beach hosted hundreds of local residents and out-of-town friends to come share a meal, enjoy music, and mingle.
Four women, all residents of Long Beach, coordinated the event and spread the word to the community. Erika Unger was one of the event coordinators. “The White Flag is about community, getting to know people, and loving on our city.”
Hosted right off of the Long Beach Airport runway, friends gathered in the large open space at Angel City Flyers airplane hanger. Right next to the open space was another hangar that held a DA 42 NG aircraft where people could hop in and experience sitting inside a private jet.
San Diego based photographer Sergey Kolivayko of Utmost Creative captured the evening in Long Beach. He has also attended the other three gatherings in San Diego. “I think The White Flag is one of the coolest events that has happened in San Diego. The first White Flag event was held at Moniker Warehouse in San Diego, and for just an Instagram and word of mouth event, it was an incredible turnout. About 200 to 250 people showed up throughout the night.”
Dinner and dessert were served food-truck style, including Vizzi Truck, Dos Chinos, and Drive Me Cookie. Rose Park Roasters brewed fresh coffee and home craft brewed beer filled up cups.
Rocky’s Revival started the evening with live music and DJ Peso from San Diego brought the crowd out onto the floor to dance.
Fresh flowers and floral crowns were provided by Seal Beach floral shop, Petals and Pop Shop, and Fête Photobooth gave guests a chance to capture some photos with friends!
“We plan on having another event this year,” said Unger.
