The date to submit applications for students who wish to transfer to all UC and CSU schools for the fall 2025 semester is rapidly approaching.
All students who wish to transfer must submit all applications by Monday, Dec. 2. Students can either use CalStateApply for applications for all CSU campuses or UC Apply for all UC campuses. All students who plan to transfer must have a GPA over 2.0 and have a “C” or better grade in all general education classes and 60 transferable units in order to apply to four-year schools.
It can be a stressful time for many of the students who are trying to apply to universities right now, as the cost of applications and the deadline quickly approaching have some students on edge to fill out the best applications they possibly can. Andrew Phan, a biology major, said “There’ve been some stressful moments, trying to balance writing college essays and other aspects of the application while balancing classes and extracurriculars this semester.” He credited the staff of Cypress College as a whole and how helpful they have been with the process so far.
Cypress College’s Transfer Center offers several workshops throughout the semester that focus on preparing students to complete their applications properly and counselors are there to support students as they step into the next part of their educational careers.
Hanna Mohamed, a business administration major, stressed the importance of taking easier classes for the spring semester saying, “When putting in classes for Winter or Spring, you have to pass them because if you don’t, you can’t transfer, that’s why it’s so stressful”. For students who wish to transfer, plan accordingly and take classes you know you will pass to avoid this conflict.
Jonathan Nguyen, a business administration major, talked about the importance of starting early with the transfer process, saying, “Even if you are a busy person, the key is starting early, so you have more time with your applications… I think starting the process was the most difficult part of the whole thing”. Students need to give themselves enough time to accurately submit their applications and not wait until the last minute to submit them and risk missing the deadline.
The Cypress College Transfer Center has various ways to support students in their journey to a 4-year university, be sure to make some time to speak with a transfer counselor. Remember it will cost around $70 for each application to every school that students apply to, so students should make sure to apply for schools they know they can get into to not waste their money. There is a fee waiver for students who qualify, so before submitting and paying be sure to check your fee waiver status on each application.
There are also private and out-of-state schools that students can apply to through the Common Application. These schools have later deadlines for applications, so if students want to apply to those schools they still have time to apply there. Access the Common Application here: https://www.commonapp.org/
