The Word Alive is a band that was formed in 2008, in Phoenix, Arizona under the Fearless record lable. Members of this band include: Telle Smith (lead vocals), Zack Hansen (guitar/vocals), Tony Pizzuti (guitar/vocals), Daniel Shapiro (bass/vocals) and Luke Holland (drums). They currently have two albums out and their third is set to be released on April 10. Along with those albums they also have songs on the pop goes punk series.
The pits during The Word Alive’s performance at the Self Help Festival were absolutely insane. There were kids that started at the center of the stage and because of all the pushing and shoving that was going on ended up on the outside edges of it. There were plenty of people crowd surfing which even members of the band got involved in. At one point during their performance Zack Hansen jumped off the stage into the crowd while still playing his guitar and let the fans guide him back around to the other side of the stage. At the ending of their set lead singer Telle Smith also got into the crowd surfing spirit and launched himself with a running start into the crowd leaving his fate in the hands of his fans, which takes mere guts.
“Being able to come out and see your favorite band play in front of a crowd as big as today’s is just amazing,” said Crystal Decenco, 22. “You can tell that they are out here pouring their hearts out in order to put on the best show that they can.”
“I was kicked in the head I don’t know how many times by people crowd surfing, but it was all made up for when I was able to help Zack Hansen crowd surf,” said Christian Rodriguez, 18. “That is a moment that I will never forget.”
“I had never heard of The Word Alive before Luke Holland joined them in 2012. I had followed him as he was making YouTube videos of him drumming before he got big and famous,” said Kyle Palaruzzi, 26. “Now to see him with this much success is crazy and it just shows that if you work hard enough for what you want eventually its going to come true. He has really been a big inspiration to me and being able to see him play live is truly amazing.”
