Support Club at Cypress College brings awareness to students who are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender or Questioning (LGBTQ). All are welcomed to join and gain more information. Meetings are held every Monday in room H-201 and Tuesdays’ in H-121 from 12:30 – 1:45p.m. on both days.
Support club has been around for “at least 10 years, maybe longer”, said Mike, Cypress College Support Club adviser. In honor of Breast Cancer month, Support Club hosted an event on Oct. 23 by the pond and Student Activities Center from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m.
Inner club advisor, Nina, 19, an Education major at Cypress College said there will be games and prizes supporting breast cancer awareness.
“Do men get breast cancer?” says Nina when asked what kind of games does Support Club participate in. The answer is yes, absolutely! After all men have breasts too.
Aside from all the excitement happening this month, Support Club also participates in events outside of Cypress College, like the annual Disneyland AIDS walk coming up, early next year in 2014. This is a worldwide event where people from all backgrounds, participate and support the epidemic disease, AIDS/ HIV. For more information on Support Club, meetings are held twice a week. On Mondays having a bigger participation and outcome, due to the higher enrollment rate of students at Cypress College on Monday/Wednesday.
