Registered Cypress College students are eligible to receive affordable health care services and health care referrals throughout the semester.
The Cypress College Health Center, located in Gym II, provides physical and mental health services to cypress students. The services that they provide range from numerous mental health counseling sessions for free, to laboratory tests (STD, blood work, etc.) for a fraction of the prices you would find at public medical practices.
Gregory Richmond, a human service major, says he has used the health services and had a positive experience. He says that getting an appointment is easy, and the staff are very motivated to provide their best treatment to the students. “It’s a wonderful thing, and they do it right.”
All students who are registered for any amount of credits at Cypress are eligible to receive care due to the mandatory $19 health fee paid during registration.
There are a wide range of medical services provided at the Student Health Center for free or discounted prices. Among these services are: First Aid Care; Breast and Pelvic Exams, Sexual Health Tests and Education; immunizations and vaccines; among other health services.
Pricing of services provided are prone to fluctuate, but most services are offered for free, or the health center staff will refer you to local facilities that can provide the same service at a lower price price.
With 79 million Americans struggling to pay off medical debt, according to commonewealthfund.org, the student health services could be of great financial benefit to many students.
Staff at the health center believe that the services may not be very widely known by many students who might benefit. Julie Vorathavorn, the Registered Nurse of the Cypress College Health Center, noted that many students often times do not realize the range of services provided at the health center that they would benefit from.
The Health Center staff puts substantial effort into marketing their services around campus, often times setting up tables at school events, and scheduling and advertising health awareness events throughout campus on bulletin boards.
Throughout the Spring Semester you will be able to see posters promoting their “Wellness Wednesday” events that will recur four times throughout the semester.
The Health Center is open from Monday through Thursday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and on Fridays from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.
To schedule an appointment or to find out more about their services, they can be contacted at (714) 484-7361.
