According to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department, former adjunct Cypress College professor Eric Brothwell was arrested for allegations of an attempt to contact a minor with the intent to have sex on Monday, March 10.
He was released from the Orange County Jail on a $100,000 bail on Tuesday, March 11. His arraignment will be scheduled at a later date.
According to his now-deleted LinkedIn page, Brothwell worked for the North Orange County Community College District, specifically at Cypress College.
In a statement given to the Cypress Chronicle by Marc S. Posner, Director of Campus Communications, he stated, “Eric Brothwell is no longer an adjunct faculty member at Cypress College.” Although his name remains on the Cypress College website’s adjunct faculty directory.
Several of his students have taken to social media platforms and other forums, including Rate My Professor, to express their discomfort when taking Brothwell’s courses. “This guy gave me the creeps when I took his class,” said one review that gave him a 1.0 overall rating for his Cypress courses, “turns out he has a thing for minors. You get what you deserve.”
Brothwell is a part-time lecturer at California State University, Long Beach, his Rate My Professor profile with the school is currently locked. According to a report by The Long Beach Current, his current employment at Long Beach State remains unclear after a statement from CSULB’s Chief Communications Officer was released acknowledging the incident.
Brothwell previously worked for Saddleback College, they released a statement on Instagram stating that Brothwell is no longer employed with the college or the South Orange County Community College District.
