For the first time in over a decade, the Cypress College library hours have been extended for past two weeks, in honor of finals week.
Exclusively for Cypress College students, the library first floor remained open for an additional two hours, requiring a school ID number at check in. This will be the first time in the past ten years in Cypress College history.
“Since I’ve been working here, this is the first semester in ten years the library has been open this late,” said Gonzalo Arenas, front desk and instructional aid at the first floor library.
Arenas wasn’t sure how the extended hours would work out.
“Personally, I didn’t think the extra hours were going to work because usually around 9 o’clock, when we usually close, there’s really not many students around. But recently, especially last night has been our busiest. At 10’oclock we had about 65 students here.”
Peter Gallegos already studying at the library’s after hours said,”It’s perfect, I can’t focus at home and coffee shops are too loud, this is a crucial time for me.”
Another student, Alexis Farmer, psychology, said, ” Extra hours makes life easier for me, my internet is down at my home, this is so convenient.” Farmer has already taken advantage of the extra hours offered at the library.
Associate Students will continue to push for extended hours during finals and keep the library open for the next upcoming semesters.
With the fall semester ending, Arenas advises, ” A.S administration are pushing really hard for extended hours, students should take advantage of it.”
This last week of fall semester, the library can be found with students cramming for final exams. A.S students are still working hard for extended hours to continue to happen and so far it’s proven successful.
