STORY BY FAUSTINA BUI AND JEFF DANG, SPECIAL TO THE CHRONICLE
Amidst the bustling corridors and vibrant student life of Cypress College, there exists academic distinction and community camaraderie within The Cypress College Honors Program and Club.
As a cornerstone of academic excellence, the Honors Program at Cypress College is more than just a curriculum; it’s a culture of intellectual curiosity, collaboration, and unparalleled growth. With a dedicated faculty and staff, this program nurtures the brightest minds, providing a platform to excel academically and cultivate leadership skills that transcend the classroom.
I chose to interview Jeff Dang, the treasurer of the Honors Club, about his leadership experience and highlight the Honors Club’s commitment to community and service.
Dang introduced himself and said, “It’s an honor to take on this role and contribute to the Honors Club.” As a treasurer, Dang handles financial responsibilities for the club including, budgeting, reimbursements, and participating in club events on campus.
Many students go to club events and try to seek more information about the club but are not fully informed about the mission of the program. “Our mission is to help the members of the Honors Program with the program requirements such as ten hours of community service per semester and four events,” said Dang.
He further acknowledged how participating in campus events allows students to learn from members directly, “We also provide information and help clear up some questions that need to be answered…we want to create an environment where honors students will be able to make connections.”
I wanted to learn more about the Honors Club’s involvement and dedication to our community at Cypress College. Dang provided information on how he involves himself in the club and in the campus community, “I actively engage with our community to understand what they are looking for in our club, promoting an environment of collaboration and shared decision-making.”
Dang ensures members actively participate and build connections with each other through club bonding events so they can develop long-lasting friendships. “I really want the Honors Club to be a place of active engagement and participation where scholars can join and be part of our community.”
The Honors Club creates an environment for students that allows them to connect and network with like-minded individuals.
