Cypress’ Honors Program, along with the Honors Club, is an excellent endeavor in helping students transfer. It also creates a great way for students to be involved on campus.
For instance, Annie Do is a first-year student on campus, she just recently graduated from a considerably small high school. She initially chose Cypress because of the convenience and proximity, but has since found a place for herself within the Honors Program.
Specifically, she has shown appreciation towards how the program “provides a multitude of opportunities from varying amounts of honors classes…weekly events or one-time events.” Seeing as participating in these events, as well as other volunteer positions off campus, is a requirement of the program, it is easy to see how the program works as a tool in helping students become involved with their campus and community.
The most recent of these events that Do attended was the general meeting, which also doubled as a painting activity. By utilizing interactive activities such as painting, which can generally be enjoyed by all, students are able to make new connections through common interests whilst simultaneously getting informed about events on campus.
Do stated that she found this event particularly enjoyable, and has also signed up for other events in the program. Through the program, students can go far beyond Cypress, both literally, and figuratively. Do demonstrates this by volunteering on other campuses, such as the University of California, Riverside, where she observed an academic conference.
The Cypress Honors Program has copious benefits and opportunities, which allow students to grow in both their social and academic ambitions.
