As the women’s basketball season heads into its final stretch at Cypress College, Head Coach Brittany Imaku, also known as Coach B, remains confident in her team’s progress and mindset heading into the final four conference games.
Imaku expressed that the season is going well, pointing to her team’s consistent effort and commitment to daily improvement. She emphasized the importance of “stacking days” focusing on growth in practice and taking one game at a time. The team is focused on developing both defensively and offensively as they prepare for the playoffs.
With four conference games left, the team’s goal is to finish the season strong. Upcoming matchups include games against Fullerton College and Saddleback College, followed by a road game at Riverside and a home contest against Santa Ana College on Sophomore Night. Imaku stressed the importance of closing out the conference with intensity and focus.
Looking ahead, the team’s main goal is to play its best basketball heading into the playoffs. Imaku highlighted the need for players to perform at a high level while maintaining a team-first mentality, ensuring collective success takes priority over individual accomplishments.
Despite early season success, Imaku pointed out that one of the team’s biggest challenges is remembering there is still room for growth. She emphasized that the team continues to focus on long-term goals and refuses to become complacent with their victories.
“Overcoming challenges comes from standing together through adversity,” Imaku said. “Basketball is mentally, physically, and emotionally demanding, and our strength lies in knowing that no player faces those challenges alone.”
This year’s squad has shown noticeable growth in both gameplay and mentality compared to last season. Imaku noted that a strong freshman class has quickly adapted to the program, while returning sophomores have made significant improvements in their skills. The team’s increased mental toughness, she said, has been helped by working with a sports psychologist, which has helped players better manage stress and pressure, especially in high-stakes games.
The team’s upcoming game against Fullerton College is of special significance to Imaku. As an alum of the program, she acknowledged the excitement surrounding the matchup, describing it as a high-energy, competitive environment. Imaku expressed confidence that her team will put forth its best effort in hopes of securing a win.
As the season nears its conclusion, Imaku and the team are focused on preparation, growth, and unity, remaining confident that they are heading in the right direction as they prepare for the playoffs.
