With the dust settling on the regular season, both the men’s and women’s basketball squads at Cypress College have qualified for the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs and are ready to make an impact.
Both Cypress College basketball teams are already gearing up for their upcoming playoff match-ups. The basketball season started at the beginning of November and continued through the winter break.
While most of us were enjoying our holidays, relaxing at home, the players were practicing and competing constantly.
Their hard work has paid with playoff berths for both the Men’s and Women’s teams.
The Men’s basketball team with a 16-12 record (7-9 OEC) enter the CCCAA Southern California Regionals as the 19th seed and will face off against the 19-9 (10-6 IEAC) San Bernardino Valley Wolverines in the first round on February 26th. The Chargers will be led by First Team All-OEC guard Sebastian Castro.
Led by First Team All-OEC guards Jessica Barrow and Pressila Blanco as well as Second Team All-OEC guard Sarah Welsh, the 20-6 (9-3 OEC) Lady Chargers head into Rio Hondo on February 28th for their second round match-up against the 20-8 (5-3 SCC North) Roadrunners.
With Cypress as the 9th seed and Rio Hondo the 8th, it is expected to be a very close, competitive game.
