Students at Cypress College hurry between classes as the sun rises, each wearing a unique look that combines fashion with functionality. College students often have a hectic schedule, making it difficult to dress nicely while fitting into an active lifestyle. The balance between comfort and style is vital, and students at Cypress College have mastered this art.
The weather has a big impact on what people choose to wear. Although the weather in Southern California is generally temperate, there are times when the morning cold gives way to milder afternoons. Layers are a common choice made by students to ensure comfort throughout the day.
First-year student Anthony Bautista, said, “Usually I just choose comfortable shoes, typically they’re a name brand; usually it’s Nike. And then, depending on the weather, I’ll wear a sweater but not something too flashy. I’m more of a neutral type of person”
For students managing a hectic schedule, wearing comfortable apparel is essential. Fashionable athleisure, joggers, and oversized sweatshirts are popular choices among students looking for comfortable yet attractive clothing. As students value both usefulness and aesthetics more, this style has become more popular. Aviation Management major Nataly Gigi said, “I love wearing pajamas, but cute pajamas. I style them up and wear sneakers; they’re very comfortable and fashionable. I love tube tops as well and tracksuit sets.”
Accessories are also essential for finishing off an ensemble while maintaining its functionality. Students frequently choose backpacks that blend fashion and utility so they may carry their necessities without sacrificing flair. Fanny packs and crossbody bags are other well-liked options for hands-free travel.
Students demonstrate that being practical need not equate to losing elegance. Many of them mix in fashionable accessories like patterned scarves or denim jackets, demonstrating that a little imagination can go a long way in their ensembles. Yesenia Oseguera, a first-year student, said, “I think about the weather and I consider the shoes. If it’s going to be a long day I wear comfortable shoes but if it’s only two classes I’ll wear my Doc Martens because I won’t be in them as long”.
Ultimately by dressing in stylish yet functional ensembles, Cypress College students are reinventing what it means to be a college student. By considering the weather and prioritizing comfort, students are making well-considered decisions that enable them to manage their hectic schedules with poise and refinement. These students demonstrate that feeling good and looking good go hand in hand, whether it’s through layering, choosing comfortable clothing, or making thoughtful accessorizing choices.
