The Cypress College Softball team is tied for first in the Orange Empire Conference as it nears the end of conference play and prepares for a playoff run.
The team holds an overall record of 28-9 and a conference record of 12-3. With playoffs right around the corner, the Chargers are tied for first in the OEC conference with Orange Coast College. After 37 games, the team has posted a batting average of .293, a .385 on-base percentage, and a .366 slugging percentage.
The Chargers recently played the first game of the series against Orange Coast College, the leaders of the OEC conference, and beat them 6-5.
Nanea Kyle, Makayla Motis, and Giselle Delcastillo are the few players who led the team to victory. Nanea went 2-4 at the plate with a double, triple, and 2 RBIs. Motis brought in 2 RBIs. Delcastillo’s hit started the 4 run rally in the bottom of the fifth, which gave them the lead.
The Chargers won two out of three games against OCC and are now tied for first in the OEC conference with OCC.
There have been several standout players this season, such as Kyle and Motis. Motis is a sophomore utility player with 28 RBIs, making her the team leader. Motis also has a batting average of .309 and 34 hits.
Kyle is a sophomore who plays center field for the Chargers and leads the team in hits, batting average, and on-base percentage. She has a total of 42 hits, 17 RBIs, a .391 batting average, a .469 on-base percentage, and a slugging average of .423.
Carly Parmenter is another star player that Coach Pickler mentioned. Parmenter currently has 38 hits and 22 RBIs. She has a batting average of .358, an on-base percentage of .450, and a slugging average of .491.
The main goal for the team this season is to make it into the playoffs. With playoffs right around the corner, the team is more focused than ever. “The goal is to win the next three games… So, we have to sweep,” said Pickler. They are tied for first in the conference; they already have a spot in the playoffs. The goal is to make it past the regionals and super regionals to make it to the state playoffs, where they can compete for the State Championship.
