The Cypress College men’s soccer team is preparing to enter Orange Empire Conference play after a challenging start to the season.
The Chargers are looking to build off a successful 2025 season, where they finished 14-4-5 overall and placed second in conference.
Cypress advanced to the second round of the SoCal Regional playoffs after defeating Palomar College 1-0 in the opening round. The Chargers season came to an end in a 3-2 loss to Oxnard College.
Chargers’ were forced to play nearly the entire match with 10 players after goalkeeper Demian Baldovinos received a red card just over four minutes into the game. Despite the early setback the chargers held firm and remained within one goal before their season came to an end.
This season, the Chargers are 2-2-1 through their first five games as they prepare for Orange Empire Conference play.
Gavin Lee has led the team’s offense with two goals through five games, while Carlos Miranda and Maxwell Van Leeuwen have combined for one goal and three assists.
Cypress has relied on several players throughout its first five games, with Van Leeuwen, Connor Somers, Brandon Procopio, Miranda and Erubey Bermudez starting every match. The consistency in the starting lineup gives the Chargers experience heading into the second half of their season.
The Chargers will have one final opportunity to prepare for conference play when they face El Camino College as they look to build momentum and finish preseason strong.
