Associated Students held the Welcome Back event for Spring 2023 on Feb. 1 at Gateway Plaza, to be followed up by Club Rush Wednesday, Feb. 7.
Students were greeted with free food and games as faculty and students hosted information booths on campus resources, student services and campus events.
Cypress Associated Students VP of Campus Activities, Avery Morgan, said more than twenty organizations and resources planned to attend.
Students and faculty were present to provide information on the Veteran Resource Center, Cypress College Athletics, and Disability Support Services among many others.
With more students returning to campus while many remain online, Morgan emphasized the importance of the Health Center which offers both online and in-person counseling.
For students who can’t attend campus regularly, she recommends they check their Canvas portal, where campus social media posts about events and resources are posted regularly.
“AS Council is booming,” said Morgan, and they are still accepting applications for this semester. Social events on campus such as the Halloween Kickback have seen huge numbers of 100 plus students, with hopes of similar turnouts in the future.
Even longer lunch lines compared to the last two years are encouraging to AS members like Morgan, as more students feel more comfortable returning to campus.
Club Rush will promote dozens of clubs and organizations for students to join, as well as many campus resources that were present at the Welcome Back event. Music, free food, and games will be available as well.
Kickbacks sponsored by Cypress AS will continue throughout the school year to help students deal with seasonal changes and offer peer support.
Students who want to participate in Cypress AS or other campus activities are encouraged to visit the Student Life section of the Cypress College website, or visit the Student Life and Leadership building eight.
