Cypress College Theatre Arts Department presents “William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night or What You Will” from May 2nd to May 11th in the Studio Theatre.
If you love Shakespeare, comedies, and love triangles, “William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night or What You Will” might be the show for you. This show is known for its silly nature and tackling topics of love and gender norms. It’s directed by Jennifer McMillin and stars Sarah Ceriale as the lead.
The play is inspired by the holiday Twelfth Night. It was a day of celebration where everything was the opposite. People would celebrate by dressing as the opposite gender, dancing, and drinking, which inspired the idea of the play. “Twelfth Night” revolves around Viola, who has a twin brother named Sebastian. They are separated in a shipwreck and both think the other has passed away. After ending up in a strange country, Viola dresses up as a man to get a job at Duke Orsino’s house. This leads to many antics and lots of confusion.
The cast of this show is filled with lots of talent. The stars are Ceriale, who plays Viola, David Kwon, who plays Sebastian, Richard Fardetter, who plays Duke Orsino, Nic Cornejo, who plays Malvolio, and Rose Parsons, who plays Olivia.
The show opened on May 2 and will close on May 11. For those who prefer a night show, May 3, 9, and 10 have performances at 7 pm. Those looking for an earlier show, performances on May 4 and 11 that will start at 4 pm. All shows will be in the Studio Theatre on the Cypress College Campus.
