The Charger Book Pass is a service for students to pay a flat fee of $100 for all their books for the semester. The program was introduced to Cypress College in the fall of 2023 and has grown ever since. Here are some key takeaways on how the pass can benefit students who choose to remain enrolled in the program.
Now looking at what the program offers let’s look at how beneficial it is for students. A History 170 book, American History: Connecting with the Past Vol 1 is $222.83 but with the Charger Book Pass the student saves $122.83 and with that money saved they can use it for other materials or personal items. Now if the student is enrolled in several courses that require textbooks, they only have to pay $100 with the pass for all of their materials which ultimately saves them hundreds of dollars.
Students are automatically enrolled in the program upon registering for the semester. If a student chooses to opt out of the program the last day to do so is Sept. 9, 2024, visit the Cypress Book Pass page on the Cypress College website to learn more about opting out.
If they choose to opt out of the program, the student is responsible for purchasing the required material for their class. Visit the Bookstore for more information about the material.
In just a year, students saved over 80% more than they would have if they bought each material or book separately. With already paying tuition, parking, and other services on campus students are using this service to their advantage.
Student Ashley Hartwig, a third year student said, “It’s beneficial to me at least because I have a book that costs $120 and I have other books too so the book pass helps me save a lot of money.”
