Due to a recent video, singer and actress Selena Gomez and American model, Hailey Bieber have been trending all over social media, especially Tik Tok.
It started in February when Bieber, including model Kendall Jenner, posted a Tik Tok. The video did not mention Gomez, but it immediately made people assume they were body-shaming her. After the comments began to spur, Bieber took down the video. But a few weeks later, more drama began to rise as Bieber and Kylie Jenner posted photos on Instagram of their eyebrows, in which fans thought they were mocking Gomez.
ATikTok video that was made by a fan about the situation, was brought to Jenner’s attention. Jenner commented, “no shade towards Selena ever,” and said that fans were making something out of nothing. Even Gomez commented saying, “Agreed @kyliejenner. It’s all unnecessary. I’m a fan of Kylie!”
Quickly the rumors were shut down by both Jenner and Gomez. Yet fans were still stirring the pot and began commenting on the Jenners’ pictures on Instagram, writing comments like “team Selena.”
Many fans have opened up ideas about Hailey Bieber and how she has copied Selena Gomez in several ways. Whether it’s from her makeup brand “Rhode” to her cooking show “What’s In My Kitchen,” they resemble Gomez.
Ideally, another company was already using Rhode, and the owners of the Rhode NYC brand said that Bieber wanted to contact them and buy their name, but they refused to sell it. Bieber chose to ignore their words and steal the title anyways.
Rare Beauty, the makeup line by Gomez, has become more popular than ever because of all the drama that has been happening. Fans have been supporting Gomez and sticking to her side. She even surpassed Kylie Jenner as the most followed woman on Instagram with 405 million followers.
Fans on Tik Tok have been opening up about Gomez and sharing their favorite moments with the singer and actress.
Cypress College student Jazira Sanchez, majoring in Business Admin said, “I’m team Selena because I love Wizards of Waverly Place.”
Gomez, a former Disney Channel star, is an idol to many of the Gen Z, the kids who grew up watching her and idolizing her are now sticking up for her. Cypress College student Lindsay Kendler, majoring in teaching, said, “Always team Selena because I grew up with her watching her shows and then I went to her concert a couple years ago.”
Most have also been hating Bieber commenting, “Who is she? We only know her because she is married to Justin.” Bieber’s husband, Justin Bieber, has also been silent during the whole matter. Recently the silence was broken between Gomez and Bieber when she reached out to Gomez on Instagram, asking her to stop her fans from commenting mean things and sending her death threats.
Gomez responded to her by posting on her story, saying, “Hailey Bieber reached out to me and let me know she has been receiving death threats and such hateful negativity. This isn’t what I stand for. No one should have to experience hate or bullying. I’ve always advocated for kindness and really want this all to stop.”
A while later, Bieber also posted on her Instagram story saying, “I want to thank Selena for speaking out, as she and I have been discussing the last few weeks about how to move past this ongoing narrative between her and I.”
Fans thought it was strange how she said they had been talking for weeks. Yet, Gomez said Bieber reached out to her. After people saw the post on Gomez’s story, many immediately ran to Bieber’s page, commenting some more. One comment said, “Imagine bullying someone and causing drama and then asking the person you bullied to fix the situation for you.”
Most comments want an apology from Bieber, but the model has been active on Instagram with posts seeming unbothered by the hate comments leaving them. It may be that whatever is going on between Gomez and Bieber will eventually fade out unless fans decide otherwise and continue to bombard Bieber’s social media.
