Cypress College’s theater department is currently rehearsing to premiere their stage production of Carrie: The Musical for the Fall 2023 semester.
Based on author Stephen King’s 1974 classic horror novel Carrie, the show focuses on a high school student who has supernatural powers that are released upon being bullied on prom night. Cypress College chose this horror production as a means to celebrate Halloween.
The novel was adapted to stage by screenwriter Lawrence D. Cohen, with lyrics from songwriter Dean Pitchford, and music by composer Michael Gore.
Carrie: The Musical will be directed by choreography professor Sonya Randall, choreographed by Ebony Cardenas, and musically directed by adjunct professor Gabrielle Maldonado.
The cast includes Naomi Groleau as Carrie White, Jordan Hicks as Margaret White, and Sarah Ceriale as Sue Snell as the first three listed leads. The full cast list can be found in Broadway World’s press.
The musical will premiere at Cypress College’s campus theatre on Oct. 6, 7, 13, and 14 at 7 p.m., with matinee showings on Oct. 8 and 15 at 4 p.m.
