The Art of the Haitian Global South showcases the immense talent of the Haitian Diaspora, as well as aspects of Haitian history and spirituality. With the showcase from the exhibition it can connect to students by having an opportunity to study Haitian history, the culture and the art.
According to the Cypress College Art website the exhibition was curated by filmmaker and founder of the Haiti International Film Festival, Jacquil Constant. The exhibition displays works by twenty-five Haitian and Haitian American Artists.
The exhibition includes historical portraits of the ancestors of Haiti’s independence and the creolization of Haitian culture; images of and by Haitian women showing them as the ‘poto mitan’ restoring their communities through their love and dedication.
Affirming the “Art of the Haiti Global South,” is part of the “SUR:BIENNIAL” a presentation of works by local and international artists influenced by the artistic traditions of Mexico, Central and South America and the Caribbean.
It was showcased at the 2025 Cypress College International Festival with a special screening of “Haiti is a Nation of Artist,” hosted on Thursday, Oct.16, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. along with a special question and answer session with Director Jacquil Constant.
The Haiti Global South Exhibition is now open, is free for all to attend and located at the Cypress College Art Gallery located near the Cypress College Theater Arts building.
The exhibition runs through Nov. 13, 2025. The hours from the exhibition are from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
