The Cypress College Athletics Department will host the first annual Sports Giving Week on Nov. 12, celebrating Charger athletes and their work on and off the field. Sports Giving Week will be a three day fundraising campaign encouraging the campus and community to support athletics through participation or donations.
Sports Giving Week will run from Nov. 12 to 14 to highlight the impact Charger athletes have on campus while helping fundraise for the athletics department. The money raised will be distributed among Cypress athletic programs and used for special events, banquets, and improvements that will enhance the overall student athlete experience.
Cypress College is partnering with E-Team Sponsor, a third party fundraising platform that works with the National Collegiate Athletic Association, National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and the official partner of the California Community College Athletic Association conference. E-Team Sponsor will serve as the main site where supporters can donate throughout the week. All money raised through the platform goes directly to Cypress College Foundation. Through E-Team, Athletic Director, Wes McCurtis previously held a successful Sports Giving Day in Oct. 2019 raising $3,500 in one day.
As founder of Cypress Sports Giving Week, McCurtis credits his former school for inspiring the idea, “I got my idea from many universities that celebrate specifically my alma mater Cal Lutheran,” McCurtis said. He also shared how his time as a student athlete helped inspire the idea to support and give back to athletes, “ The goal is to help student athletes find success and develop both on and off the court or field.” McCurtis said there are plans to make Sports Giving Week an annual tradition with many alumni and former athletes expected to take part in the fundraising and celebrations in the years ahead.
