Coming Out Day is a celebration of living in your authentic self for the LGBTQ+ community. On Oct. 8, students, staff, and faculty gathered together to celebrate on campus with The Queer-Straight Alliance (QSA) Student Club and LGBTQ+ Support hosted the campus fair alongside other clubs supporting the LGBTQ+ community at Cypress College.
A Pride staff member said, “A lot of the programs on campus were there, including student health and wellness, basic needs, Legacy and different affinity groups.”Michael Moral”
The organization was between the staff in Pride center, cypress college campus, and community partners, Michael Morales was the lead, but it was kind of everyone helping with the organizing, everyone was helping out on staff as well as different organizations like associated students and student life and leadership and mainly a collaboration between Pride center and everyone else on campus.
Morales was the point of contact for the event set-up, collaborating with the other student organizations like Associated Students and Student Life and Leadership on campus, while also guiding other staff members in the right direction.
Many students enjoyed the event, and they participated in activities together while getting to know each other.
“It was a fun event, I saw a lot of people smiling, having fun, and doing a bunch of activities…the smiles were all around, the happiness…there was a lot of visibility of queer experience,” said Max Stein, a student who attended the event.
It was just a day to be visible on campus, feel supported, feel like they mattered and celebrate each other.
