From elementary school to college, clubs have existed as a cornerstone for people to gather under one singular motive, such as finding environmental solutions through beach cleanups or growing accessibility for college students.
Not only do clubs provide a wide variety of tools for their specific goals, but they also allow students to bond through events and service activities in which students meet and complete tasks while learning more about one another.
One of the bonding events completed by a club on Cypress College’s campus was the “bookshelf painting bonding event” put on by the Cypress College Honors Club. This gathering of students under the flag of simply painting a bookshelf to help grow connections between more established clubs on the campus allowed those students who attended the event to have conversations and bond over their paintings, no matter how big or small.
Not only does the Honors Club do bonding events for their club members, but they also implement service hours that serve other clubs as well. Most clubs help induce the need to complete these hours with minimum requirements, including the Honors Club with a requisite of 10 hours.
These service hours range from a trash cleanup to creating a gift bag for the holiday season. Though clubs are not mandatory for students to join, the access to resources and connections that clubs provide for every student on campus or attending virtually allows for relationships to form naturally and opportunities for future endeavors to become a reality.
