Associated Students hosted the first Club Rush of the semester on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, in front of the Student Life and Leadership Center, where 45+ clubs informed students about campus opportunities and extracurriculars.
Over 500+ students attended this year’s tropical-themed club showcase. Clubs such as the Business Club, Christian College Fellowship, Film Club, and Math Club were present to pitch.
The Cypress Business Club provides opportunities to grow student experience in accounting and marketing through various mentorships, events, and guest speaker appearances. The club meets twice monthly from 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m., and their first online meeting is on Tuesday, September 24 through their linktree: linktr.ee/cypresscollegebusinessclub. This meeting will include a presentation from the Career Technical Education Dean, Rick Hodge. The club is on the lookout for new cabinet board members, and they encourage students to apply.
The Christian College Fellowship Club welcomes students interested in the Christian faith and hosts weekly meetings every Thursday at the CCCPLX 419 from 12:45 p.m. –1:45 p.m. They lead prayer services, have live praise and worship sessions, and host bonding events with club members.
The Cypress Film Club focuses on different global films and prepares students for the entertainment industry. Students have the opportunity to work on films, learn how to use equipment through free workshops, build a portfolio, and participate in the Cypress Film Festival. The club is working on a film with real actors and aims to release a film in the near future. The Film Club meets every Monday at FASS 215 from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
The Cypress Math Club hosts math-oriented activities and social events, preparing for the American Mathematical Association of Two-Year Colleges Competition in late October. They host potlucks, game nights, and review practice exams. They meet at 2:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. in SEM-111 twice a month.
Jonathan Nguyen, a second-year majoring in Business Administration, serves as a senator on the Associated Student Council.
“It’s important to hold club showcases, especially with how diverse this year’s club categories and interests are,” Nguyen said, “Thinking back to my first year, I didn’t have a lot of exposure to clubs, so helping the set-up and planning for this event feels rewarding now that I’m involved on campus.”
Clubs are set out to increase student engagement, as Associated Student plans future club rush hostings and pop-ups to come.
