With a new semester comes the start of basic needs services that students can begin using. The Charger Food Pass is just one of the many programs Cypress has offered students in the past few years.
The Charger Food Pass program is a reloadable $12 gift card for meals, drinks, and snacks from the Charger Cafe. The Cafe is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. and Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Students must pick up the gift card in front of the Charger Cafe with their student ID. This is available the first two weeks of the semester August 26th to September 6th.
This program has had several growing pains since last fall and became an important topic of conversation among students, staff, and faculty on social media and in previous interviews with the Chronicle.
A specific issue students have encountered is the interruption of learning due to the long wait lines and limited service hours.
While the program did not change from last semester, in an informational e-mail sent to students from Marc S. Posner, Director of Campus Communications, he said, “This program may evolve as the semester continues and our technology expands.”
Since the program has limits, Cypress has found different ways to provide students access to hot meals on campus, especially students who are on campus for several hours or even all day.
These other options include hot food vending machines that include pizzas, chicken chili, several kinds of pasta, and chicken teriyaki and fried rice. This option is less time-consuming and is available at all times of the day. Cypress also has plans to reopen a coffee shop adjacent to the bookstore for students.
