Cypress College will be hosting the return of the second International Cultural Festival on Thursday, Oct. 3 from 10:45 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. between the Humanities and FASS building.
The Festival will bring students, staff, and faculty members together to celebrate and learn about each other’s culture within the campus community. This is important for the campus and the experience for everyone involved.
This year, Mihoko Terada Luther, a Japanese professor, will be organizing the International Cultural Festival. She is also hosting a Japanese Movie Night on Wednesday, Oct. 30. Her goal is for students to have the opportunity to experience diversity with each other. Luther said, “I want people to come to experience different cultures in eating, seeing, participating, giving them their own perspectives.”
Luther, who has worked at Cypress College for six years, including her time with the music and dance department, wants the International Culture Festival to be a yearly event that allows students to “ be more involved.” She also wants this event to become student-organized, which increases student involvement.
Performers will be required to give a speech before their performance that explains the characters and history behind the performance. A variety of foods will be given out throughout the day and there will be several events for students to participate in. Speeches will be given by the Puente Program, Culinary Program, the Dragon Phoenix Lion Dance Team leader, the Speech and Debate Team, and, the Dean of Language Arts.
Join Cypress College for a day filled with celebrating cultural diversity through music, art, food, and other activities.
