For Fall 2022, Cypress College provides groceries and food to take home for students enrolled in classes. The Food Pantry is held every week on Wednesdays 9:00am to 12:00pm and Thursdays 2:00pm to 4:00pm, in the Student Life and Leadership Building.
Timmy Tran, the Service Navigator for the Non-Profit called Pathways of Hope, oversees the Pantry and Human services on Campus. According to the Service Navigator, a food bank in Irvine is responsible for delivering the second hand food to many college campuses, Cypress College being one of them.
Victoria Gurrola, an Art Major at Cypress College, demonstrates that receiving free groceries relieves economic stress at home. She says, “I’ve always struggled with groceries at home so it was cool to have the extra free help.” She shares that she will continue to attend the Pantry until she graduates.
The Food Pantry serves the purpose of ensuring students that are experiencing a food crisis, are being aided. According to Tran, they are typically seeing around 110 students this semester.
Before receiving groceries at the Food Pantry students have to register. The Food Pantry provides an area with desktops where students can register before receiving their free groceries. The registration online form asks a few personal questions regarding economic status at home and requires a student ID number.
