The Cypress Art Department will be opening its annual Students’ Show this Thursday, April 28th. The opening reception will be from 6-8 PM in the Cypress College Art Gallery.
These previous few years due to Covid-19 restrictions, the department had conducted online galleries to showcase students’ works. Tomorrow’s opening will be the first in-person Students’ Show from the Art Department since the pandemic started.
Students like Abdul Meelar, a Graphic Design major, and Luis Hernandez, a Photography major, are excited to finally have in-person exhibitions on campus.
“It’s going to be exciting to have a gallery opening in-person finally! Nothing like seeing physical artwork hanging on walls,” Meelar said.
Hernandez said, “Finally! No more virtual galleries! I prefer seeing them in-person rather than in front of a screen.”
This show will include works from all of the Fine Arts departments, from Theatre to Media Art Design. All of the installed work is made and produced by Cypress College students.
On the same night, the Photography Department will also be holding an opening to their first-ever Student Show. This reception will be held at the same time on the second floor of the Technical Education I building.
This show is made up of only photography students from all levels of the department. The work will include images created by using analog, digital, and alternative photography.
The photo department will also be holding an award ceremony for the best in the show at 5:30 PM before the general reception begins.
Both of these shows will be available to view until Thursday, May 12th.
