With the campus still closed and no known date to when the campus will potentially fully open again, here is a list of some of the new services available online for Cypress College students and faculty.
- Library Online Services for students
Since the library has been closed from the start of COVID-19, there have been limited resources available until recently. Library services have been extended online with new interactive tutorials and badges to help further understand the layout of the website. Online research guides are available as well with 24/7 access to databases and peer-reviewed articles that can be found on the Cypress College website. Appointments are available to be scheduled with a Liberian on zoom. Along with other services like chatting, emailing, and text-a-librarian. While supplies last, laptops, hotspots, calculators, and other library materials, including textbooks,) by request are available for students and low-touch pickups by appointment.
- Learning Resource Center Online Services for students
Students and faculty can connect virtually with the LRC in new live chats, tutoring via zoom by appointment, and virtual study rooms, all of which are available on the LRC website. Laptops and hotspots are available for enrolled students while supply lasts. The English Success Center (ESC) offers drop-in tutoring services that are“first come, first serve basis” for writing assignments, online tutoring sessions are accessible for “ 30 minutes in length”, DLA’s, and “meet with faculty mentors.” The Math Learning Center(MLC) offers DLA’s, tutoring for math, physics, and statistics (students must be registered to Math NO1, a “free non-credit” supervised tutoring course), and meeting with faculty mentors.
Services open for faculty at the LRC are new custom research videos, research guides, and research handouts, 24/7 access to databases, library materials pickup/textbook, and reserves accessible by appointment only. Asynchronous and synchronous instruction is available for aiding faculty with “custom videos for courses/ or assignments” and live one-shot research sessions that can be found at https://cypresscollege.libguides.com/FacultySupport.
- Men’s Survivors of Suicide Loss Support Group
This eight-week support group is a “safe and inviting place” offered to adult men who suffered from the grief of “a lost loved one to suicide” that is facilitated by “marriage and family therapist-trainee & peer with lived experiences.” The support group is free to Orange County Residents, offered from April 28 to June 16 from 4-5:30 pm by private zoom invite; more information can be found directly at www.didihirsch.org.
